All undergraduates and graduate students at the University of Helsinki are members of the Student Union (HYY). HYY provides its members with a variety of services and looks after their interests. The membership of HYY entitles to student discounts provided by society, such as public transportation, student priced meals and discounts to many cultural events.
There are two committees that function in the international affairs sector of HYY and one of them is the ESN Committee. The ESN Committee within HYY has been part of the international Erasmus Student Network association since 1993. As a local section of the ESN international, the committee is called ESN-HYY.
The members of ESN-HYY are voluntary Finnish students who organize various activities for international students at the university and for the Finns who would like to become more international. Many active people in the committee have been exchange students themselves or they are otherwise interested in international affairs. Everyone is welcome to join the committee and its activities. ESN-HYY organizes excursions, trips, clubs, parties, language cafés, and so on. There is something going on every week! The Committee itself has meetings about every three weeks. Additionally, ESN-HYY annually participates in the ESN meetings in
